Review and confirm your transactions

How the Transactions page shows what's left to review, helps you confirm it, and tells you when you're done.

Written by Scott Cormier

Your Transactions page shows you what's left to review, helps you work through it, and tells you when you're done. It opens on To confirm, a list of every transaction in your date range that you haven't confirmed yet.

Your default views

Views across the top of the page let you switch between your transactions. Each one shows how many transactions it holds.

  • All: every transaction in your date range.

  • To confirm: transactions still awaiting confirmation, including ones that don't have a category yet.

  • Confirmed: transactions you've confirmed. These are already in your reports.

You can also save your own views. See Save a view of your transactions.

Confirm a transaction

  1. Open the To confirm view.

  2. Check the category. Puzzle suggests a category for most transactions, so in most cases you're checking our work, not starting from scratch.

  3. If the category is wrong, click it and choose the right one.

  4. Click Confirm. The transaction moves out of To confirm and into Confirmed.

Changed your mind? Click Undo in the message that appears.

Transactions without a category

A transaction needs a category before you can confirm it, so Confirm is disabled on rows that show No Category. Pick a category, or click the AI Categorizer button (the sparkle next to the category) to get a suggestion. Once the transaction has a category, you can confirm it.

Confirm many transactions at once

  1. Select transactions using the checkboxes on the left. The checkbox at the top of the list selects every transaction on the page. To include the other pages too, click Select all matching transactions.

  2. Click Confirm in the bar that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Only transactions with a category get confirmed. Any without one stay selected, with a note telling you how many still need a category. One Undo reverses the whole batch.

Some transactions need a closer look before they can be confirmed, such as transactions that might be capitalizable, unlinked credit card payments, or transactions in a locked period. Puzzle will tell you how many need your attention.

Unconfirm a transaction

Confirmed transactions are locked into your books. To change one, open the Confirmed or All view, find the transaction and click Unconfirm.

When you're all caught up

When there's nothing left to confirm in your date range, you'll see You're all caught up! This covers only the dates you've selected, so widen the date range to check older transactions.

Filters and sorting

Each filter you apply shows as a tag below the toolbar. Click the x on a tag to remove that filter, or click Clear all to reset your filters and sorting. Your current sort shows as its own tag.

Your filters, date range and place on the page stay put when you edit a transaction or leave the page and come back.

Turn the AI Categorizer button on or off

Click View in the toolbar. Under Options, switch AI Categorizer on or off. Your choice is remembered.

Rules

The Rules button in the toolbar takes you to your categorization rules, where you can create and manage them.

Common questions

Where did the tabs go?
The Bank & credit card and Rules tabs have been removed from the Transactions page. To get to your rules, click Rules in the toolbar. To switch between unconfirmed and confirmed transactions, use the views across the top of the page.

Where's the Finalize button?
Finalize is now called Confirm. Confirming a transaction does exactly what finalizing did.

Why can't I see older transactions?
The page shows the last 3 months by default. Change the date range to see more.
