How to Review and Update Your Integration Ingestion Dates

This article explains what ingestion dates are, how to review them, and how to update them if you need older transactions to sync.

Written by Michael Herchen

What Is an Ingestion Date?

An ingestion date is the starting point from which transactions are pulled from an integration into Puzzle.

  • If your ingestion start date is April 1, 2024, transactions before that date will not sync.

  • If you need transactions starting from April 1, 2020, the ingestion start date must be updated to reflect that earlier date.

Who Can Update Ingestion Dates?

Ingestion dates can be reviewed and updated by users with Full Access or Account Owner permissions.

When Should You Check Your Ingestion Dates?

Review your ingestion dates if:

  • Transactions are missing from an integration

  • An integration appears connected but shows no data

  • You recently connected an integration and expected older data to sync

  • You reconnected or reset an integration

How to Review Your Integration Ingestion Dates

  1. Navigate to Integrations in the left-hand sidebar

  2. Click into the account you want to review

3. Locate the Ingestion Start Date field to see the current setting and review the dates

4. Review the date currently listed and update as needed.

📌 The ingestion start date should match the earliest date you want transactions pulled from. Please note that we can usually only pull ~2 years worth of data.

How to Update an Ingestion Date

  1. From the integration settings page, click the Pencil icon to enter edit mode

2. Update the Ingestion Start Date to your desired date

  • Example: Change from April 1, 2024April 1, 2020

3. Enable the "Remove transactions posted before the ingestion start date" toggle to apply this change to existing transactions.

4. Click Confirm to save

⚠️ The toggle must be turned on for any data to be removed or recreated. Saving a new date without enabling the toggle will not change what data appears in Puzzle.

Understanding the Remove Transactions Toggle

The toggle does different things depending on which direction you're moving the start date.

Moving the start date forward (removing older data)

If you move the start date to a more recent date, enabling the toggle will remove transactions that fall before the new start date from Puzzle.

Example: Your start date is Jan 1, 2024. You move it to Jan 1, 2026 and enable the toggle → transactions from 2024 and 2025 are removed from Puzzle.

Moving the start date backward (recreating older data)

If you move the start date to an earlier date, enabling the toggle will attempt to recreate transactions from that period.

Example: You moved your start date forward to 2026 but now want the 2024–2025 data back. Move the date back to Jan 1, 2024 and enable the toggle → Puzzle will attempt to recreate those transactions.

Important: Recreated transactions come back without any prior categorizations. You will need to re-categorize them manually.

Important Notes

  • Updating the ingestion date does not create duplicate transactions

  • Some integrations may have limits on how far back data can be pulled

  • Bank data via Plaid typically only goes back 2 years due to bank limitations. If you need more than 2 years of bank history, you can manually upload transactions via CSV

  • If you're unsure which date to use, choose the earliest date you need accurate records from

Still Having Issues?

If you've updated your ingestion date and data is still missing or incorrect, contact support ([email protected]) and include:

  • The name of the integration

  • The ingestion start date you've set

  • The date range of missing transactions
