Ramp bills showing as Draft in Puzzle

Why a bill from Ramp can arrive in Puzzle as a draft, and how to post it.

Most Ramp bills come into Puzzle as normal bills. If one shows up as a Draft, Puzzle couldn't post it on its own because something on the bill is missing or can't be matched. You can finish it and post it yourself.

Why a bill stays in Draft

  • The vendor or due date is missing.

  • The bill has no lines.

  • A line has no category Puzzle can match to your chart of accounts (for example, it's coded in Ramp to an asset account other than Prepaid Expenses).

  • The bill isn't in US dollars.

How to post a draft bill

  1. Go to Expenses → Bills and open the draft bill.

  2. Fill in anything missing, and set the category on each line.

  3. Click Post.

If the bill still won't post, message us in chat with the vendor, date and amount, and we'll take a look.

Bills coded to Prepaid Expenses

Ramp bills coded to Prepaid Expenses used to come into Puzzle as drafts. This is fixed for bills imported from October 17, 2026 onward. Older prepaid bills that are still in Draft stay that way until you post them with the steps above, using Prepaid Expenses as the line category.

Do I need to mark bills "Ready to sync" in Ramp?

No, unless you use 2-way sync. Without 2-way sync, Puzzle pulls your Ramp bills automatically as long as the bills option is turned on for your Ramp integration. See Syncing Ramp with Puzzle.
