Before you start

A few things to know:

  • Chat works on top of your general ledger. The output reflects your existing accounts and categories.

  • You don't need a special prompt. Upload your statement and ask Chat to import it into the right account. Chat will parse the file, show you what it found and whether it passed validation, and only import after you confirm.

  • Review the parsed output before confirming. Chat will only add transactions to Puzzle after you confirm.

How to import a PDF or CSV

  1. In Puzzle, click Chat under AI Suite in the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Click the file upload icon and select the PDF or CSV you want to import — for example, a bank statement.

  3. Click Open, then Done.

  4. Ask Chat to import it, and say which account it belongs to — for example, "Import this statement into my Chase checking account."

Reviewing the output

Once Chat finishes parsing, you'll see:

  • The available bank sources detected in the file

  • A breakdown of the transactions by account

  • Whether the file passed validation

Review the results to make sure the accounts and transactions look right.

Note: Larger files may take a minute or two to parse. Let the run complete before reviewing.

Confirming the import

When the parsed results look correct, confirm to add the transactions to Puzzle. Chat will add each transaction under the matching account.

You can then continue categorizing, reviewing and reconciling those transactions like any other transactions in Puzzle.

Tips

  • Name the account. Telling Chat which account the statement belongs to avoids a follow-up question.

  • One file at a time works best for accurate parsing.

  • If something looks off in the parsed output, tell Chat what's wrong before confirming.
