A: Puzzle allows different classification Groups. Classes are organized by Groups, and a user can create an unlimited number of Groups for Classes.
Q: How do I create Groups for Classes?
A: You will organize your Classes by different Groups. An example of a Classes Group would be “Events”, then you would have the different Classes such as “Offsite”, “Sales Kick Off”, and “Leadership Conference” listed under that Group.
Q: How do I set up Classifications in Puzzle?
A: Classifications can be set up in the “Settings” page under the “Classifications” tab. If you are using an integration that uses fields such as Departments and Locations then Departments and Locations will automatically be created if they are set up in your integration.
Q: What is the purpose of Classifications in accounting?
A: Classification tagging can be useful for tracking transactions based on different characteristics or different reporting dimensions. Some examples include tracking transactions related to company events (ex: offsite), tracking expenses by department, or tracking revenue by location.
Q: How do I start tracking my financials by Classifications?
A: Classifications can be assigned to transactions in the “Transactions” tab. Classifications can also be assigned to Manual Journal entries, Bills, and Invoices, when they are created.
Q: Can I assign multiple Classifications to a single transaction?
A: Classes can have an unlimited number of Groups, and you can assign one selection from each Group to a transaction. An example would be a transaction for a Marketing expense (Department) in San Francisco (Location), related to an Offsite (Purpose)..
Q: Are there any reporting features specific to Classifications?
A: Currently classifications are available to view in the P&L on the Dashboard, as well as in your GL export.
Q: Can I customize the list of Classifications?
A: Yes, you can add different Classes at any time. Note that currently you cannot edit or delete any of Classifications.
Q: Are Classifications included in the chart of accounts?
A: No, Classifications are not included in the chart of accounts. One of their best use cases is to help track transactions based on shared attributes. You still need to assign your transactions a category from the chart of accounts.
Q: Do Classifications affect the way transactions are posted to accounts?
A: No, adding a Classification to a transaction does not affect the way it is posted to accounts. Classifications add an additional level of detail to each transaction so that you can view your data in different dimensions.
Q: Does every transaction need a Classification?
A: No, transactions are not required to have a Classification attached.
Q: Can I restrict access to certain Classifications for specific users?
A: Currently you cannot restrict certain Classifications for specific users, all users will have access to the Classifications in the Puzzle account.
Q: Can Classifications be assigned with payroll transactions?
A: No, currently you cannot tag payroll transactions with Classifications.
Q: Can I set up a custom rule for classifying recurring transactions?
