API and MCP Access in Puzzle

Connect Puzzle to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools yourself with the MCP connection, or request partner API access.

There are two ways to work with your Puzzle data programmatically:

  • The MCP connection is self-serve. Any Puzzle customer can use it to connect AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT to their books.

  • The partner API is for platform and accounting partners building deeper integrations.

Connect with MCP (self-serve)

Add Puzzle as a connector in your AI tool using this URL:

  1. In your AI tool (for example Claude or ChatGPT), add a custom connector and paste https://app.puzzle.io/mcp as the URL.

  2. Sign in to Puzzle when prompted and approve the connection.

  3. Manage or remove connected apps any time in Puzzle under Settings → Connected apps.

Good to know:

  • Companies that haven't upgraded to a paid plan get a reduced set of tools after their cutoff date.

  • Make sure you use the /mcp URL. If the consent screen asks to "Read company data", you've connected to the partner API instead. See MCP connection troubleshooting.

Partner API

Our partner API was architected for deep platform-to-platform integrations, and access is evaluated case by case. We prioritize:

  • Platform Partners: Developers building core integrations on top of the Puzzle ecosystem.

  • Large-Scale Firms: Accounting or advisory partners managing high-volume portfolios that require specific programmatic syncs.

How to request partner API access

  1. Join the Partner Program: Sign up at puzzle.io/partners.

  2. Submit a Use Case: During onboarding, let us know what you're looking to build.

  3. Technical Review: Our team will review your requirements to ensure the API can support your needs reliably.
