Puzzle checks every bank and credit card account against your institution's month-end balance, shows you where it doesn't tie out, and can work through the reconciliation with you, in the app or from your AI assistant. For the step-by-step manual flow, see How to Reconcile Bank and Credit Card Accounts in Puzzle.
Auto-validation on the Reconciliations page
Go to Accounting → Reconciliations. For each account, the Auto-validation check column compares Puzzle's balance with your financial institution's month-end balance and shows the difference through the latest month. Reconciled through shows the last period you've confirmed. An account with a difference is where to start.
Reconcile with AI in Close
Close includes a Reconcile [account name] task for each bank, credit card and investment account with activity. Click Run on the task:
If the account isn't reconciled for the period yet, enter the Statement ending balance and Statement ending date, then click Continue.
The agent works the reconciliation for that month and explains what doesn't match.
When the difference is $0.00, click Confirm. View reconciliation opens the full reconciliation.
Accountants managing the books also get the PDF bank reconciliation template, which reconciles from a statement PDF you upload.
Reconcile from your AI assistant
With the Puzzle MCP connected, ask something like "Where do our bank reconciliations stand through September? For any account that isn't reconciled, diagnose what's causing the difference." The assistant lists each account's reconciliation status, then diagnoses the ones that are off: the open entries that could explain the gap, a statement balance that looks wrong, or an opening balance to check. With write access turned on, it can also start reconciliations, select entries and approve them, confirming each change with you first.
